Seattle Stairs - Exploring High Point

It seems like there's always someplace new to check out when it comes to Seattle stairways!

The first Saturday of the month Feet First, the local walkability nonprofit, sponsored a walk in the High Point neighborhood of West Seattle. Timothy Lowry, High Point resident, urban planner and Feet First Walking Ambassador, was set to lead the walk. According to the Feet First announcement (see our link to their website for future walk listings), Tim would talk about how the Seattle Housing Authority's High Point development has built green - in particular using techniques to minimize unfiltered runoff from going directly into Puget Sound.

Being West Seattle locals ourselves, we decided to go, and it was great. We even went back the next day to check out nearby stairs and Longfellow Creek. Here's several pictures from both days. There's good urban hiking around here!

Public Stairway Walk - Queen Anne

On Saturday, October 27, we did a 2.6 mile loop around southwest Queen Anne on a rainy day that, somehow, spared us the rain. A couple dozen folks joined our stairway walk, alerted by announcements on the Seattle/Bellevue Dragon Boating and Hiking Meetup and the Seattle Times. Several representatives of the Queen Anne Historical Society provided insights on the historical homes and other structures we saw along the way.

In the not-too-distant future we'll do more walks on this route and the other two Queen Anne routes in our book.
